Hummingbirds

Hi Friends,

I hope you've been well and enjoying your week! I've been observing lots of different flowers, weather, and birds, too.

Last week, I heard a hummingbird, so immediately put up my feeder. It's filled with sugar water and the feeder is red to attract the birds. Since hummingbirds are used to sipping nectar from flowers, this is a great way to provide them with a fast snack. They need to eat many times throughout the day, because just like when you run, bike, play, and feel hungry after, these fast-flighted birds also use the energy from their food very quickly!

I haven't' seen a hummingbird at my feeder yet, but I'm very hopeful that I'll see one soon! In Idaho, we're lucky to have a few different species of hummingbirds here. The one that I drew below is called a Ruby-throated Hummingbird, the only species that lives where I grew up in New York State.

Have you seen any hummingbirds yet this year? Do you have a bird feeder of any kind at your house?
